Pune is located 170 km south of Mumbai and referred to as cultural capital of Maharashtra. It is also called as ‘Oxford of East’. Pune has emerged as one of the biggest industrial towns not only in Maharashtra but also in India. City is home to numerous educational institutions, Automobile industries, traditional heavy industries, cutting edge IT companies, dynamic BPO’s, stud farms, and Osho’s meditation center. The great Maratha leader Shivaji was raised here after the city was granted to his grandfather in 1599. Retail is the next big story, and the city malls and supermarkets cater to every single segment of society. However, while the city’s industrial development is changing the face of the city, Pune is still primarily a university town. It offers a mix of the modern intertwined with the old. It is also a great base for some day tours or excursions, we will find out below.
